croit V2301.0 - Ceph Quincy Release
We are excited to announce that our latest release for our platform, V2301.0 is out! Our platform now supports the latest Ceph version of Quincy - the 17th stable release of Ceph which is named after Squidward Quincy Tentacles from Spongebob Squarepants!
croit’s platform for Ceph offers a simple and convenient way to upgrade Ceph from Octopus to Quincy.
“Quincy is a reliable release”
We have been using and testing the Quincy release for months, and it is safe to say that it is a reliable release. The upgrade heavily consists of improvements and bug fixes to current features, as well as some useful new features introduced. We recommend users upgrade to the latest version of Quincy if they are still on the Octopus release.
Why you should consider migrating to Ceph Quincy Release
- RGW rate limiting
- Quality of life improvement
- Many bug fixes
Aside from maintenance and bug fixes, there are also many quality of life changes made on the release. Below you can find the notable changes and improvements overall.
NOTABLE CHANGES WITH THE LATEST CEPH RELEASE, QUINCY
- Filestore, which was not really performant, is deprecated in Quincy. Ceph’s default object store is now BlueStore, which is a storage back end that is designed to manage disks for your Ceph object storage daemons.
WITH_LEVELDB
is not supported anymore. Before upgrading to Quincy, users are advised to migrate their monitors and OSDs to RocksDB.- Telemetry is improved. For more details, see: https://docs.ceph.com/en/quincy/mgr/telemetry/
RGW Rate Limiting
Rate limiting can be quite useful for organizations with a large number of users accessing buckets on a frequent basis. Rate limiting can help distribute cluster resources by user and/or bucket to prevent a single user from using up all the resources dedicated to the organization. The feature allows the admin to limit only READ operations and/or WRITE operations.
